About DCAMM

The Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) is responsible for capital planning, project delivery, property management, and real estate services for the Commonwealth’s buildings, land, and asset portfolio. DCAMM oversees $2 billion+ in capital projects, which include over 5.5 million square feet of state buildings. As an agency, we care for the people of our state and the future of our planet.

  • We work with state agencies to create and manage forward-thinking, sustainable buildings to meet the needs of the Commonwealth’s citizens and help achieve a zero-carbon future.
  • We are partners with fellow agencies to help them meet their strategic needs with fiscally responsible building and real estate solutions.
  • We support the growth of the Commonwealth’s economy and actively engage with private sector partners to make it easier to do business with the Commonwealth.
  • We work to expand access, opportunity, and equity to create more inclusive services, planning and outcomes for all the citizens of the Commonwealth.

DCAMM Office of Planning

The Office of Planning is the strategic long-term planning and development office within DCAMM. We initiate and manage all pre-design activities for state building projects and public development initiatives. In fulfilling this function, the Planning team works closely with the institutional leadership of our client agencies, officials, stakeholder groups and collaborative partners to prepare architectural programs, master plans, capital development plans, feasibility studies, and financial proposals.

Intern Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers in management of planning, design, and implementation of projects of various scales and detail
  • Develop graphics, presentations, digital 3D models, and illustrations to communicate data analysis, planning strategies, and design concepts to aid in decision-making
  • Attend site visits and meetings with Project Managers, Design Team Members, and Client Agency representatives. Take detailed notes and prepare meeting minutes.
  • In addition to Planning team support, selected interns will have the opportunity to support other teams within DCAMM:

Statewide Accessibility Initiative (SAI): the goal of the SAI team is to address compliance with state and federal accessibility requirements relative to persons with disabilities. The Initiative provides technical assistance to project managers and designers in all phases of a project from programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction. In addition, the SAI assists in evaluating statewide compliance efforts through master planning projects. The selected intern will work closely with the SAI Project Managers, in all project phases from programming through construction.

Public Private Partnerships (P3): The P3 team identifies and executes long-term real estate transactions that leverage the value of state assets to access private financing and development expertise and deliver cost-effective improvements that advance the mission of various state agencies. Often these projects include private development components which advance specific policy goals, such as economic development, housing production, improved human services delivery, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. The selected intern will work closely with the P3 Team on specific project assignments and tasks.

Energy & Sustainability (E-Team): The E-Team helps facilities plan sustainable and energy efficient building projects. They work to improve energy and water efficiency in existing, renovated and new buildings. The E-Team team advises DCAMM on LEED certification for all new and major renovation projects. And their utility incentive, demand response, energy credit, and savings optimization programs provide guidance and funding mechanisms to support sustainable and resilient choices by our client agencies.
